REFUGEE Series

A refugee, generally speaking, is a displaced person who has been forced to cross national boundaries. A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, violence or natural disaster. A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.

The Refugee Series sculptures and paintings are an artistic and emotional reaction to the global refugee crisis, with hopes of providing financial support and awareness for this far reaching humanitarian crisis.

This photo gallery includes a selection of available sculptures and paintings. These are freestanding metal sculptures, representing figurative forms. Each of the figures stands on various elements, maybe a round base representing a circle of ground from a beloved homeland, a rocking boat, a rooftop or other interpretive component. The figures are meant to express the grace and strength of the human spirit to persevere through life’s challenges.

The “Refugee Series” premiere feature exhibition was held in 2019 at The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at ASU Boone, NC. View Exhibition.

Available sculptures are priced from $3,500 to $7,500 each, please contact us for additional images, sizes and pricing for all works. The paintings are acrylic on canvas or mixed media on panel and range from $2,500 to $4,200. A portion of all sales is donated to the refugee service organizations listed below.

A gallery view of an exhibition titled Refugee by sculptor Bill Brown. The wall is painted in grey and orange.

Artist Bill Brown became aware of the expanding worldwide refugee crisis in late 2015. This new body of work began to evolve from that growing awareness and the artist’s desire to help refugee organizations.

Brown’s hope is that this work and it’s narrative will serve to bring awareness to the worldwide refugee crisis and encourage engagement toward solutions. The artist has committed to make a donation to refugee service organizations from each sculpture sold.
