Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Lucas Hundley is a woodturner and furniture maker based on the edge of the Pisgah National Forest. His passion for woodturning began at a young age, and his talent quickly gained recognition by the American Association of Woodturners while he was still in high school. This early recognition earned him an Education Opportunity Grant to study in Yamanaka, Japan, where he not only learned traditional Japanese techniques but also shared the innovations of American woodturners.
Lucas went on to pursue formal education in woodworking, earning an Associate Degree in Professional Woodworking from Haywood Community College. He furthered his studies at the Appalachian Center for Craft at Tennessee Tech University, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
In his studio, Lucas creates elegant turned vessels, small objects, and commissioned furniture pieces, all marked by precision and craftsmanship. His work, rooted in tradition yet pushing boundaries, reflects the harmonious blend of his diverse training and experiences.
