Kenneth Charles (b. 1968, New York) is a sculptor specializing in modernist abstract works in metal, clay, and cast stone, with a focus on geometric explorations. With a designer’s eye, his sculptures emphasize balance, tension, and fluidity. An advocate for traditional, hands-on craftsmanship, Charles prefers working without computer-aided design, beginning each piece with a simple sketch. This sketch is developed into a maquette, which allows him to study how the form moves in space before moving on to the final work.
Charles began his career as a commercial artist but transitioned to sculpture in 2009, starting with clay and casting techniques before expanding to metal fabrication in 2019. His work can be found in private collections throughout the Southeast U.S. and is part of the permanent collection at the Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park, Florida.
“I love design! Architecture, landscape, interior, furniture— all of it. But most of all, I love working with my hands, which led me to sculpture.”
