Robert Winkler is a sculptor whose work explores the relationship between control and spontaneity, geometry and organic form. Through the manipulation and repetition of identical geometric elements, he uses volume, mass, balance, and incremental gradation to create sculptures that appear to twist, unwind, and move. Though constructed from precise geometric components, his forms often take on an organic, almost animated presence without relying on curved cuts. 

His works range in scale from hand-held to large outdoor public works, but most are somewhere in-between (indoor pedestal size).  While working an internship for sculptors, Shannon Owen and Lyle London in Phoenix, Arizona, Adam gained a lot of experience working on public and private commissions.  His works have been chosen for public art commissions in Durham, NC and Charlotte, NC.  He has also won several awards in national and regional juried exhibitions. 

Adam currently lives in Banner Elk, NC.  He considers the mountains of NC to be the most beautiful and inspiring landscape in the state, and feels very fortunate to be able to call it home.  He is currently employed at Appalachian State University as the Art Department’s Lab Operations Manager.
